Advice and guidance of the leading Marja’iy’ah to Hawza students in the holy city of Najaf.
• You are now in a position to guide the believers and enlighten them to that which is good for their religion and lives.
• Apply what you preach to others because a teacher should teach himself first.
• Be like the prophets in your manners and traits and honour each other and respect other people so they may follow you.
• Associate with people and live with them according to the saying of the Imam (a.s.): “People are of two kinds, either your brother in religion or your equal in creation.”
• Prepare your studies early and discuss them among yourselves after class so the lesson stays in your mind.
• Avoid delving in politics, it’s a waste of time and mind preoccupying.

Allamah Sayyid Murtadha Al-Kashmiri mentions the guidance and advice given by our grand Marja’ (long may he live) to Hawza students from Madagascar and other places; who have passed the levels of Sotooh in their studies and wish to wear the A’mamah on the auspicious occasion of the birth of the Prophet (s.a.w.w.) and his grandson Imam Jaffar Al-Sadiq (a.s.). Here are the points mentioned:

1-You are now in a position to propagate, guide and educate the believers and their children, a religious education, in accordance with the saying of the Almighty: ((..why should not then a company from each party from among them go forth that they may apply themselves to obtain understanding in religion, and that they may warn their people when they come back to them that they may be cautious [from evil] )) Holy Quran 9:122. Know that wearing this attire makes you responsible to exercise the virtues and ethics of men of God.

2- Humble yourselves as much as possible towards others. Associate with the dispossessed and share with them food and clothing and be a good example for them in life’s difficulties. Follow the example of your master the Commander of the Faithfull (a.s.) who lived like his people and did not eat or dress better than them.

3- Continue in reciting the holy Qur’an and contemplate its meaning as well as studying ethic books.

4- Take one day a month or per week, when you have no work or studies, to practice sermons; by giving lectures even it’s in front of a few people – so you will have no difficulties in propagating in the countries you visit.

5- Honour each other and respect others’ opinion and conduct yourselves like prophets (a.s.) so people can learn from you.

6-Associate with people even if they differ from you in faith and doctrine in accordance with the saying of Imam Al-Sadiq (a.s.): Visit their sick, attend their funerals, witness for them and pray in their mosques.

7-Forgive those who have offended you, and speak to them gently and kindly (("But speak to him mildly; perchance he may take warning or fear [Allah] ))." Holy Qur’an 20:44. Also as the Almighty says: ((Repel [Evil] with what is better: Then will he between whom and thee was hatred become as it were thy friend and intimate!)) Holy Qur’an 41:34.

8- Prepare for your lessons early, before the class begins, and highlight the parts that require further clarification. Discuss your lessons among yourselves, even if the lecturer does not fully explain something do not reprove him and give him a choice by saying: “Don’t you think this interpretation or that interpretation is more accurate?”

9- Associate nicely with people according to the saying of the Commander of the Faithfull (a.s.): “Associate with people such that if you die among them they will grieve for you and if you live with them they will show their affection towards you.”

10-Avoid delving into politics, it’s a waste of time and it preoccupy’s the mind.

In studying religious sciences, let your principle be devotion and enlightening people towards the right path.

I shall pray for your success in both worlds.
