Allama Sayyid Murtadha Al-Kashmiri says:
• The world will not be free from oppression and corruption until the awaited Imam Al-Mahdi (a.j) reappears.
• He (a.j) will not reappear until three requirements are fulfilled.
• The main elements of the Imam ‘s (a.j) dominion are three hundred and thirteen – the same number as the companions of the holy prophet (s.a.w.w.) in the battle of Badr.
• The annunciation of his reappearance will be in the month of Ramadhan and he will rise on the 10th of Muharram.
• His supporters being scholars, the pious and the righteous will converge on him from all corners of the world to be Makka when he (a.j) rises.

And We wished to be Gracious to those who were being depressed in the land, to make them leaders (in Faith) and make them heirs, (Holy Qur’an 28:5)

These days we are nearing the anniversary of the birth of the saviour of mankind and its saviour from anguish, namely the awaited Imam Al-Mahdi (a.j – may Allah hasten his reappearance). On this great occasion we touch upon one of the many aspects of this absolute certainty, namely; the following three components required to rid the world of injustice, arbitrariness and oppression:

The ideology. The leadership. The cadres The first one: the existence of an appropriate and sound ideology to rid mankind of this bitter and corrupt reality. Could this ideology, be communism, capitalism, or secularism, Christianity, Judaism or Buddhism or others as claimed by their advocates? No and a thousand no’s . The ideology that will save mankind is the pure and refined Islam with its thoughts and roots traced to the household of the immaculate and pure (a.s.) – intellectually and genealogically.

The second element: the presence of an eligible leadership of the highest level of knowledge, intellect, awareness, insight with unmatched politics - embodying the full concept of Islam and its true characteristics. The evidence available from Shia and Sunni Muslim references, all refer to this leadership as being none other than that of the awaited Imam Al-Mahdi (a.j)

The third element: the presence of a global jihadist movement to cleanse the world from corruption; because it cannot be cleansed by miracle. So there must be a movement to implement the role of change and transform the world from this bitter reality to a world where all corruption will be uprooted and all evil entities obliterated from the face of the earth. This movement must progress according to wise and precise ideological foundations. The question that always arises here is: when will this movement be ? Can we identify it by the day, month and year ? The answer is no, we do not know. Even the awaited Imam (a.j) does not know. Only Allah (s.w.t) has this knowledge. Yes, one can say that there are signs and indicators of this movement in the world today which are considered as signs of the reappearance of the Imam (a.j.).

So what are the components of this jihadist movement ? After careful investigation we found them to be three:

1 – the justification for the movement.
2 – the right environment for the success of the movement.
3 – the cadres for the movement.

The first component, the justification for the movement; is when the world reaches a boiling point due to oppression, injustice, misguidance, deviation and corruption such that it will need a radical and comprehensive change to rescue it. From what we gather, the state of the world today has reached a degree of corruption and oppression requiring a general comprehensive movement to eradicate such injustices.

The second component, the right environment for the success of the movement; the Imam (a.j) requires an environment whereby the world would plunge miserably into a state of despair and failure of all systems and ideologies - such that each individual feels unrest, frustration from all the systems in the world, but, at the same time lives in apprehension of another force to change this bitter reality and rescue him. Here, the idea of the saviour will come forth and that is the Imam Al-Mahdi (a.j) and he will not appear unless the required cadres that will assist him to implement his mission are available, and that is..

The third component: that the Imam will not change the world by miracle, but through a jihadist movement against unjust, deviant and infidel entities.

He (a.j.) will fight corruption. For this he needs supporters and agents through which his blessed movement against injustice and tyranny may start. This movement will not begin until the required number of supporters with the right qualities are available. The narrations refer to these supporters as being righteous, noble and Faqih and describe them those as living in piety and in fear of Allah to the highest level, who have a clear insight and awareness about Islam, the religion, the Qur’an and the Mohammadi tradition (Sunnah); that they will long for martyrdom in the way of Allah because they have prepared themselves for this eventuality - to be sacrificed for Islam. Young men with iron hearts, tough on upholding justice, solid, who will not retreat, who stay up all night, buzzing with prayers like bees.

They will swear allegiance to the Imam (a.j) between the Rukn and the Maqam. According to authentic narrations their number is 313 and in another narration 10,000 is mentioned with another narration not specifying a number at all. However, after reflection and research we do not see any contradiction in integrating these narrations. Whoever says 313, means the higher ranking echelons of the Imam’s (a.j) government and dominion. The ten thousand is the army under his command; otherwise there is no meaning to our praying: “O Allah let us be among his supporters and aides.”

As for how they meet with the Imam (a.j.), this will not be until Allah authorises him to reappear and for those aides and supporters to move towards him from all over the world. They will meet and join him (a.j) in Makkah. There are two opinions about this meeting:

The first opinion says: the aides and supporters will join him by miracle and swear allegiance to him by the Ka’ba. The narration says they will meet at a given time, such that the earth will bend for them and they will all arrive swiftly. Another narration says they will travel above the clouds – reference to air travel no doubt.

Another narration says they will be sleeping in their beds at night and wake up with the Imam (a.j.) during the day.

The second opinion says: the Imam’s (a.j) aides will join him in a normal way because the Imam (a.j.) will call out his name in the month of Ramadhan and he (a.j) will not start his movement until the 10th day of Muharram. So between the month of Ramadhan and the 10th of Muharram is the Haj season, when the aides and supporters will arrive by conventional methods with other pilgrims by air, land and sea. They will stay behind for this mission and not return home with the other pilgrims until the Imam (a.j.) overtly begins his transformation movement on the 10th day of Muahrram. The angel Jibra’il (a.s.) will announce, between the heavens and the earth, the Imam’s (a.j) reappearance and this call will bring together his aides and supporters to gather around him, answering the call and implementing his orders. In the Dua Al Ahd we pray that:

O Allah! If death occurs between me and him (before the reappearance) (death) which you have made obligatory and decreed for your servants, then raise me from my grave, wrapped in my shroud, my sword unsheathed, my spear bared, answering the call of the caller in cities as well as deserts.

O Allah! Show me the rightly guided face of (Imam a.s.), the praiseworthy moon (referring to the face of Imam a.s.) and enlighten my vision by looking at him. And hasten his reappearance, make his arrival smooth, make his path vast, make me tread on his way and implement his authority and strengthen his back. O Allah inhabit Your cities through him and give life to Your servants due to him for surely You have said and Your word is truth, "Corruption will become rampant in land and on sea because of the evil which men's hand have earned"
