By His Name, the Most High
((...and turn to Allah all of you, O believers so that you may be successful)) Holy Qur’an 24:31
We are in the month of Ramadan, the month of repentance and month of forgiveness and the month of emancipation from hell and wining paradise.
The month when God opens the gates of heaven and the gates of Paradise and the gates of mercy, and closes the gates of Hell.
When worshiping God in one night is equivalent a thousand month’s worship, the Muslim should pay attention and make sense of how he spends his days and nights and how he protects his faculties and limbs from the sins of his Lord and not be sleeping at night and neglecting to mention God during the day.
According to Hadith [narration], “ at the end of each day at Iftar time Allah frees a thousand thousand necks from hell, and on Thursday nights or Fridays, a thousand thousand necks of those who deserve punishment are freed every hour and on the last day and night of the month the equivalent of all the month’s necks are freed. So let us be careful so the month of Ramadhan does not lapse and we still have a sin left over. We should beware not to be among the sinners deprived of forgiveness and dua [prayer].
It is narrated from Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) “Whoever is deprived of forgiveness in the month of Ramadhan will not be forgiven till next Ramadhan unless he goes to Arafat.” Preserve yourself O Momin from that which Allah made Haram and from having a Haram Iftar.
Do as Imam Al-Sadiq (peace be upon him) recommended when he said: “If you are fasting then let your hearing, sight, your hair and skin and all your faculties fast.” i.e. abstain not only from the forbidden but also from the detested [Makrooh].
He (peace be upon him said): “Let not your fasting day be similar to the day you eat.”
He (peace be upon him said): “ Fasting is not from food and drink alone, if you fast keep your tongues from lying and turn your gaze from what Allah has forbidden and do not fight nor be envious of each other nor backbit or differ (rightly or wrongly) or curse and swear or be lethargic. Do not neglect remembering Allah. Keep quiet, silent, patient and truthful and avoid evil people, shun false speech, lies antagonism, suspicion and gossip. Supervise your afterlife waiting for your days - the reappearance of the awaited one of Muhammad’s family (peace be upon him and his family) may Allah hasten his reappearance. Waiting for what Allah has promised you and take provision for your meeting with Allah. Observe serenity, solemnity, submission and humiliation; like a servant from his master, afraid begging. Let your heart be cleansed of defects O fasting one, sanctified from wickedness and your body clean from dirt, disowning the enemies of Allah and be faithful to the Wilaya, abstaining in public and in private from what has been forbidden by Him, fearing Allah publicly and secretly, allocating yourself completely to Allah during your fasting days, emptying your heart for Him and focusing on what He has ordered and invited you to do. If you achieve this then you will have truly fasted. And if you omit any of the aforementioned then you will have omitted the same amount from your fast. And my father (peace be upon him) said: the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) heard a fasting woman using bad words with her maid so he requested some food and asked her to eat. The woman said: but I am fasting O Messenger of Allah! So he said: But how can you be fasting when you swore at your maid ! Fasting is not abstention from food and drink, Allah only made it a veil from obscenity of speech and action, O how less fasting and more hunger.”
The Commander of the Faithfull, Imam Ali (a.s.) said: How many of those fasting only know thirst and how many others only know fatigue, namely sleeping bags and their breakfast.
From Jabir ibn Yazid from Imam Al-Baqir (peace be upon him) said, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to Jabir ibn Abdil-llah: O Jabir this is the month of Ramadhan, whoever fasts its days and worships [during] its nights, preserves his stomach, private part and tongue will come out of his sins like he will come out of the month. Jabir said: What better Hadith ! The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his family) said: What more difficult in conditions !
Therefore, the month of Ramadhan is an opportunity for us all, O believers, the opportunity to do good, an opportunity for reflection, a chance to interact, and an opportunity to renew energies. Our Arab and Islamic peoples should benefit from the atmosphere of the holy month to spread love, tolerance and reconciliation and to intensify the great Islamic values that bind us all to love God and obey him.
I also hope those who abused hundreds of millions of Muslims by blaspheming them [Takfir] and making false accusations against them that has led to bloodshed, rape and killing of innocent men and women and the slaughtering of children, to repent to Allah during this blessed month, perhaps Allah will forgive them for He is the Forgiving the Merciful.
