Official Statement Issued by the Office of Sayyid al-Sistani (may his life be prolonged) Regarding the Ongoing Military Aggression Against Iran

In the Name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful

Military aggression against Iranian territory has continued for several days, resulting thus far in the martyrdom of large numbers of citizens, including many courageous defenders of their homeland, dozens of children, and other innocent civilians. It has also caused extensive damage to both public and private property. As anticipated, the scope of counter-military operations has expanded to include several other countries, with a number of their regions and facilities suffering harm and destruction, scenes unfamiliar to the region for a very long time.
The unilateral decision, taken outside the framework of the United Nations Security Council, to wage a comprehensive war against another member state of the United Nations in order to impose specific conditions upon it or to overthrow its political system, in addition to constituting a violation of international charters, represents an extremely dangerous precedent. It portends grave consequences at both the regional and international levels and is expected to lead to widespread chaos and prolonged instability, bringing calamities upon the peoples of the region and harming the interests of others as well.
Accordingly, the Supreme Religious Authority strongly condemns this unjust war and calls upon all Muslims and free people of the world to denounce it and to stand in solidarity with the oppressed Iranian people. It reiterates its appeal to all influential international actors and nations, especially Islamic countries, to exert their utmost efforts to bring an immediate halt to this conflict and to pursue a just and peaceful resolution to the Iranian nuclear file in accordance with the principles of international law.
