The representative of the leading Marja’iya in Europe congratulates the Muslim world on the advent of the great month of Sha’ban

On the occasion of the blessed month of Sha’ban, the representative of the leading Marja’iya called for making use of the countless virtues that Allah has placed in this month’s deeds.

It’s been reported from the immaculate Imams (a.s.), that Sha’ban was called by this name because of the multiplication of goodness in it, and we are in dire need of that these days when we are engulfed by so many calamities and fears - as a result of wars and epidemics.

In this month, we have to increase our recourse and invocation to Allah Almighty by Du’a ((Call on your Lord in humility and in private)) Holy Qur’an 7:55. The narrations mentioned regarding the deeds of this holy month specifically emphasize on fasting, seeking forgiveness and charity. Although such deeds are generally required, the fact is that during this month, the month of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household), these deeds are of a special virtue. It was reported that whoever fasts some days in Sha’ban - out of love for the Messenger of Allah and to seek nearness to Allah - Paradise will be obligatory for him.

This is a precious opportunity, in which we strive to purify and cultivate the soul, educate it on virtues and good deeds, and purify it from vices and bad morals, by adhering to prayer, fasting, recitation of the holy Qur’an and invocations - especially Sha’bani prayers and giving charity, seeking forgiveness, helping the poor and the needy, kindness to parents, enjoining good and forbidding evil, and other deeds that brings one close to Allah Almighty.

We have to prepare spiritually and physically to welcome the month of Ramadan, and cultivate the self to obey the Most Merciful, and prepare to enter into Allah’s grand hospitality and benefit from the blessing of this great month.

On the authority of Abu Ja’far (a.s.) who said, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) said to Jabir bin Abdullah: “O Jabir, this is the month of Ramadan, whoever fasts during its day and performs a recommended [mustahab] act of worship during its night, controls his stomach, private parts and his tongue, will be clear of his sins just like completing the month.” Jaber said: “O Messenger of Allah! How wonderful this hadith is?” The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him and his household) said: “O Jabir, and how strict are these conditions?”

We ask Allah Almighty to let us be among those who rekindle the days and nights of this month, and to make us appreciate Laylat al-Qadr, for He is the Guardian of success.
